Type 2 Grinding Wheels

  Conventional Grinding Wheels are also called common abrasive grinding wheel. They are differing with Super Abrasive Grinindin Wheels Diamond Grinding Wheels and CBN Grinding Wheels. Conventional Grinding Wheels are including the Brown Corundum Grinding Wheels(Brown Aluminium Xoide), White Corundum Grinding Wheels(White Aluminium Xoide), Pink Corundum( Pink Aluminium Oxide), Green Silicon Carbide, Black Silicon Carbide etc. 

  1. Abrasives Types.

  1. Brown Aluminium Oxide (A)

  Used for heavy duty work such as snagging steel casting and for stock removal in cylindrical grinding, on all but the hardest and most heat-sensitive steels like low alloy steel, cast cast steel and rough grinding applications.

  2. White Aluminium Oxide (WA)

WA is used for light grinding of all kinds of hard, heat-sensitive steels, It is excellent for tool room grinding, sharpening of high speed steel, cast alloy tools like hardend steel, H.S.S., Tool steels S.S (400 series) and chrome plated material. It is also recommended for cylindrical, surface and internal grinding applications of tools, dies and gauges.

  3. Pink Aluminium Oxide (PA)

Very cool cutting, retains better form and a sharp cutting edge for a longer time. Used for bore grinding, cylindrical and some specialised precision applications, good on tool steel, H.S.S. applications where protecting components from thermal damage is of critical importance.

  4. Black Silicon Carbide(C)

  It is used for general grinding, heavy duty snagging, cylindrical, centreless and internal grinding. With specialised bonding process, it is also used for grinding cemented carbide, for bench grinding and centreless grinding applications. Also used for non-ferrous materials, cast iron, stainless steel and rough grinding applications.

  5. Green Silicon Carbide(GC)

  Used for grinding cemented carbide tools, hard and high chilled cast iron rolls etc.

  Shape Types of Grinding Wheels

 Type 1-Straight Wheel; Type 2-Cylinder Wheel; Type 5, Recessed One Side Wheel; Type 6-Straight Cup Wheel; Type 7-Wheel, Recessed 2 Sides; Type 11-Flaring Cup Wheel; Type 12 Dish Wheel and Type 13 Saucer Wheel. 

 

  2. Grit Size

  Grit inluences mostly the finish of the surface and metal removal.

  3. Hardness.

    The harder is the ground materials, the softer the wheel

  4. Structure.

Higher numbers of the structure are nessary, when the the wheel begins to burn the ground material. Open Structure (9-16) with great amount of pores are useful for hard metals.

  5. Bond.

    Bond influence mostly the strenght of the wheel.

    Resin Bond Grinding Wheel with higher strength and working speed;

    Vitrified Bond Grinding Wheels are very common wheels;

    Rubber Bonds are useful for special operations.
